September Organizing Tip

Have you ever experienced that you are SURE that you have letters in green or blue, but that you have no clue where they are? Or that you have yellow envelopes somewhere, but WHERE?! It drove me insane… so I had to do something about it. After some deep thinking, I realized that when I’m working on a layout I often look for something in a specific color to spice it up. And that’s where this idea came from: I started organizing and sorting my embellishment by COLOR. Buttons, ribbon, alphabets, tags, envelopes, and everything else you can think of.

First step: buying clear plastic containers for each of the colors I had in mind: blue, red, green, yellow/orange, pink/purple, brown/natural/kraft, black, white, clear and metals.

Second step: I picked a few buttons in a color, poked holes in one of the sides of a container, and attached them with embroidery floss (this was a lot of work and gave me some blisters, but hey you gotta love the result, right?!)

Third step: Put all the “sorted by color” stuff away. Store all the containers in a closet or open rack like I did.

Fourth step: Take a few steps back, make yourself a cup of coffee, take a seat and enjoy how it looks. And it doesn’t only look nice, it actually works too! Here’s how it looks inside a container:

I’m curious about how you guys sort your embellies: please share and leave a comment!

See ya next time and happy organizing!

Wow Liesbeth, I hadn’t seen these yet! Looks great! I have a similar set up, except my color boxes are not clear: I use metal boxes from IKEA, with convenient label holders on the front. Since my boxes are smaller than yours I have divided the colors in: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, white/transparant, black, metal/grey, brown/natural/kraft. I also have one multicolor box, ’cause sometimes embellishments are so rainbow colored that I can’t decide where to put them :-)!

Liesbeth, this looks wonderful! See through boxes are perfect and i love the buttons on it! I find that what-ever system i use and set up: i keep loosing track of things because i don’t put things back were they belong after making a layout… They either hang around on the floor or my desk, especially after creating with deadlines hahaha. I do have a system that works for me as long as i clear up now and then LOL: http://scrappersparadise.typepad.com/photos/my_studio/

WoW Liesbeth, how cool is this!? And it certainly looks nice too! Ever heard of glue dots to glue buttons on plastic? ;)
I really don’t know if this would work for me too. I’m fond of all kind of tins and boxes and I use them for all kind of scrapbooking stuff: buttons by buttons, ribbon by ribbon, tags by tags, metal by metal, etc. and because my work space is very small and situated in a corner, everything is in a hand reach.
But I certainly keep this idea in mind - thanks for sharing! :)

I can use this idea for sure as we’re about the reorganize our “office-room” at home (which is an office to Tonie, computer space to the boys and my scrapping place). Just have to show this to my DF and add it to our list of ideas/wishes! Luckily I have a very good memory when it comes to scrapping stuff ;)

Just bought my containers! This is by far the best idea I have ever seen.
Thanks for sharing! ;-)
