i bought Sanne & Ruben some new clothes yesterday and Ruben was kinda MAD (putting it lightly…) that i didn’t buy him the pinkish t-shirt with Minni Mouse on it… so i promised him: mommy will make you your own unique Micky Mouse t-shirt!
you’ll need:
a 100%(!) cotton t-shirt, scissors, ironon transfer paper, a favorite image, maybe some felt or fabric.
find your favorite image on the net, print it (BEFORE PRINTING: FLIP IT!) on iron-on transfer paper (and maybe, just maybe you want to read the instructions FIRST…).
print another one on plane paper and distract the little bugger with pencils from his big sis!
cut it out with a marge of about 0,5 cm (0,1 inch) (i know, not shown here, i messed up the first time
decide where you want to transfer the image
keep the little fellow busy. laundry is always a win-win.
put a kitchen towel on top of it, and check if it’s still in place…
set your iron to the highest possible, and iron-on baby!
a few tips:make sure your shirt is 100% cotton…be patient… it takes several MINUTES before it transfers… not several seconds…improvise if it goes ‘wrong’ (see what i came up with…)
after ironing for a couple of minutes, check CAREFULLY if your iron-on is about to transfer. if not: keep ironing (press hard!). if yes: gently peel of the back. GENTLY. if it sticks somewhere, put it back and repeat the ironing-thing…
“o no Ruben, look MORE LAUNDRY!” especially with the ironing thing going on, you don’t need those little hands nearby…
this little impatient chica peeled it off before it was properly transferred, so i messed up one ear. no worries, there’s always a solution
make sure you have some more time for yourself. playing ‘hide and seek’ is one of my favorite. and just keep calling from the other room: “i don’t know where Ruben is…. i really really don’t know!”. you’ll hear him laugh and peeing his pants (well… actually his diaper), but it’ll give you some more time! you only have to yell “where are you??” from time to time… (yes, he’s underneath that laundry basket…)
here’s where the felt stash comes in handy! cut 2 ears and a cute little tail.
ahhh the bugger found me. hop on my lap and count some buttons please (he loves to count :D, and it takes ages!)
sew it on by hand. the bugger ont he lap counting stuff. there’s always more stuff to count.
couldn’t make the dude happier.
kinda hard taking a picture of a 2-year old who can’t sit or stand still for longer than 1 nano second…
don’t you love that tail peeking out from the side?
ofcourse he ordered some more. he’s like his sista…
do you have favorite make-it-yourself-ideas?
