Stuffed layouts and cards - Tips and techniques October

Monique Helfrich

Fall started with grey rainy days and in the morning and evening are cold. Do you already feel the need for hot chocolate and gingerbread, reading a book on the couch under a cosy soft fleece blanket?Well I do and that cosiness inspired me to this puffy and fluffy technique I want to share with you.As you noticed the 2009 scrapbooking trend is fabric. Not only scrapbooking brands produce special fabric products but also the papers get that kind of fabric look, like the Sassafrass paper I used of the October Kit.

Let’s show you how to use fabric on a layout or card in a puffy way.

First you start your layout untill you’re satisfied about the paperwork.

For the little duckling I got the photo of this cute bath duck from the internet and copied it in felt. Embroidery floss gives it accents.

Before adding the fabric on the layout you partly carve a rectangle through the paper layers. Later this will be covered by your item.

Glue or sew your item on the layout, turn your layout and hey….there’s a hole to puff the whole thing up!!! This works best with a popsicle stick. The smaller you glued or sewed the item on the layout, the better you can stuff it.

Then tape the hole and the puffing is done!

Now you can add a title and other embellishments to finish your layout.Do you see the fabric structure of the Sassafrass paper?

There’s also a piece of fabric behind the transparent buttons.

The same technique was used for the heart of my layout 1573.

For a puffy heart on a card I first cut out the heart (a little larger).

The heart is sewed on the inside of the card and puffed with a tooth pick.

The back of the card is covered with a heart of the same size cut out in mirror image.

And a puffed H to say Hi on an October afternoon!

I hope you like this technique and with this I wish you all soft and cosy creative October afternoons, monique
