‘Under pressure’ {Painting Techniques}

Monique Helfrich

Do you remember this layout?

Well let me show you how I did these golf balls and how you can easily use all kind of random materials to press in paint for a fun texture or to make footprints as an eyecatcher.

For the golfballs I punched out some circles of thin chipboard.

A thin layer of Gesso makes a light colour base but should not make it completely white.

When dry just apply a thick layer of white acryl paint; I always use cocktail picks to hold small pieces when I glue or paint them.

When the paint is still wet, roll a golf ball over the chipboard circle (firmly pressed).

Et voilá!

For this card I also used the cocktailpicks.

All you need is enough paint to scratch in. This is also possible without stamps. Just apply enough paint on cardstock. Then scratch your texture in the paint. Let it dry and draw flowers or any other object with a marker. Then cut out your hand made embellishment.

This texture is the result of a Q-tip.

For this layout I used leaves and a fine-toothed comb (which I hope never to need for louse… did I mentioned the word scratch before….. :) )

The leaves are so simply to create! Apply acryl paint on your leaves (in fact more then shown in my photo).

Then put it on the cardstock and cover it with a light weight piece of paper (the one in your printer is okay). You will need your power again by pressing/rolling over the paper.

Remove paper and leave and that’s all…

For the wood structure you can use a comb (fine-tooth) and again a thick layer of paint.

The tree and deer in the layout above are cut out of Hema Christmas cards.

And for this huge paw print I searched the internet. Title says: A paw for this team.

Blow up printed the picture and heat laminated it. Then cut out the paw print and used it as a mask. The same mask was also used by my son to make the paws on the doghouse but it was raining cats and Scooby Doo’s so that became a mess.

And for this footprint I simply used my son’s boot :)

Probably these techniques are not quite spectacular or new to you but I hope this post will invite to you to grab your paint and play with it.

Have fun!
